einordmaine's 1:6 scale CUSTOM RIDDICK... EVOLUTION

New project for 2025/26...
So I bought this guy from a guy off of Ebay:

And so, once I dis-assembled his component parts
Here's what I ended up with:
1. einordmaine's DEPOSITION Set

2. Phicen body and some nice black Pitch Black pants (my old boots) and a vest/tank top with a perfect 'crotch grabber' stand.
Ahhhh... an "E1LEV1EN" Head... the creme-de-la-creme for Riddick builders!
(This one will need some silver added to the eyes)
I'll add this to my collection:

...from these parts I was able to revive/re-assemble/re-create not one, but TWO of my old custom RIDDICK figures...

Luckily I had some of my old, spare clothing sets laying around just gathering dust... Oh!
- and some Boy Black parts too!

2002-2004
Starting point:  ULAKS

This sort of languished in a cupboard for years after I made it - it wasn't until I tried putting it into a hand of a TTM20 that I realised it needed adjusting - better to have the curve large and inaccurate to deter copy-artists... or so I thought!

Early work in Milliput - then since I had 1 and needed 2 - I copy moulded the second, hopelessly so I found an old Model & Collectors Mart where guys used to offer their skills - usually for lead figures and the like - so I obtained about a dozen copies and set about painting them!

1st efforts - painted!

Little did I know that pewter (when it's pure) can seriously take a polish! Check these out...

The SMcG incident / Sideshow Freaks Controversy

SMcG's set with Eleven Head

did he or didn't he buy my custom blades off Ebay -  yes - and did he or didn't he copy them in plastic to go with his harness & Bracer set...?

His 'fans'/customers seem to blame me for even mentioning it!

I'll leave it up to you to decide... are they mine with adjustments or not

The VERY FIRST set 1.0 (sold on Ebay)

Some guys aren't too bothered with accuracy... yes, I made the stuff - but it was mostly all experiments with materials and paints to see what worked or what was possible - this guy came along and was happy to put it ALL on a body that was so skinny, it looked like Riddick had been in a Prisoner of War camp!

3. HEADPLAY's

4. CIAN's

5. ELEVEN's Vin Diesel: The "GAME CHANGER" -

even though with each head tonally there could be a huge difference (from added rough to a skin shine) once the 'eyeshine' was added - these really were the best fit and likeness for almost any 1:6 body. I preferred the TTM20 as shown...

MY FIGURES PRODUCTION LINE

THE GOLDEN AGE -
Original Eleven heads were plentiful, as were TTM20 bodies...

nothing lasts forever!

So then we move into "TO COPY OR NOT TO COPY" - it's own controversy...

[Purists say "no" - but they would, wouldn't they!?]

If the heads you bought are truly yours - why NOT make copies of them? Preserve the quality and condition of the original... Originals while only limited in availability are easily purchased from vendors - but what happens when the market suddenly dries up?

Yes, that's right - cheaper alternatives (completely lacking in quality) start to show up and render matching skin-tones a thing of the past!

Solution: COPY COPY COPY ...and then paint-match to the desired body!

Looks like a custom dagger with my clothing and added SMcG harness and bracers on a Phicen or other THOR body, perhaps... very nice combination!

For GLENN MORGAN:-

So you see it begins to be about egos - mine included - I wanted credit for the clothing, but every 'customiser' wanted to get the credit for their unique build.

Each customer I had was getting a customised kit - that could make almost any figure into a Riddick figure. That (to me) was the essence of customising - personally I think if you make it, then you are a CUSTOMISER - if you just simply 'put it on' a figure you are a KITBASHER, yes, your figure has been customised, but you yourself are a kitbasher!

HOW MAY PEOPLE WOULDN'T TELL ME WHAT THEY WERE USING MY STUFF FOR - ALL IN THE NAME OF KEEPING THEIR 'RECIPE' UNTIL THEY TOOK THEIR PHOTOS > I HAD TO KNOW WHAT BODY YOU WERE PUTTING THIS ON, SO I COULD MAKE SURE IT FITTED!

[Sorry to burst your egos]

For LEONARDO FIGUEIREDO:-

One clean... one dirty! Think this was the first time someone sent me a body to build it all on... I suppose around now I realised - this can be made to fit ANY 1:6 body, with time and adjustments... This was CHRIS REDFIELD's

New Blade Box

Added clothing - before weathering

Although I don't like the rubberised body - I do like the thinner thighs...
TTM20s have such chunky thighs!

Skin-tone match is pretty decent - but it HAS to be the browner Eleven heads!

6. SIMPLZ heads...

The heads seemed to fit better on the Bane body... around this time Bane himself began to go up in price - what was less than £200 shot up to over £400 sometimes £600! Hardly worth picking one up, just to be left with a lot of useless gear.

Also I noticed the paint application was not as resistant to handling... It wore off almost as soon as you touched it - right on the nose too!

Solution: copy molding again! A better paint application and better match too!

LEFT: original MMS183 & Colour-matched head /
RIGHT: 'knock-off' Bane body and paint removed Simplz head

So I invented SPACE GLADIATOR: BARBARIAN

Well, I say 'invented' - it's based upon the 2013 film RIDDICK so this was my attempt at replicating this look.

I also designed new weapons too!

For Louise 2.0

For Jonathan

I could only ever manage to get my hands on 5 or so of the original BANE bodies.
So I resolved to only create 5 pieces in total... I ignored all the requests to just make someone individual parts and sell "just headsculpts" - I wasn't repeating the endless possibilities of SPACE GLADIATOR all over again. So 5 it is!

19. ART FIGURES (yet again) "DARK FURYAN 2.0"

It was around this time I started experimenting with the PITCH BLACK look of Riddick...

This became my...

 SPACE GLADIATOR: CONVICT

All he needed was a couple of shivs. Goggles and Boots, vest & trousers and a breather too!

Having learned my lesson with over-priced base bodies, I went for a Kaustic Plastik KP body - I settled on this design... mostly because the skin-tone again as near matched the Headplay headsculpt's.

CONVICT 1.0

CONVICT 1.0

For this set I went back onto Ebay and used a cheap DIVER4 recast headsculpt...

SMcG's trousers in grey or black were an excellent base for a PITCH BLACK look.

My basic paint app left a lot to be desired... call this the "cheap and cheerful" version!

CONVICT 2.0

Louise, Jonathan, Kostas and Paul Costick all seemed to like this design... as it was more practical, less time consuming as there's less parts overall and much easier on the wallet too. Base body was only £30

I added some LOKI cuffs and a few chains here & there and that was that!

CONVICT 3.0

I experimented with other heads and went back to Martin Hillier... his ability to colour-match the sculpt and re-size it too was the perfect solution to all my problems!

I re-purposed the 5th unsold BARBARIAN and I think we're getting somewhere.

Other examples & happy customers photos of my work:

CONVICT 4.0

For this one I like to think I went all-in... or at least all-out!

I decided the BANE arms were the best and added them to the TTM20 type torso - Superman, I think, it had thinner BANE-like legs instead of the super-fat TTM20 thighs, thinner legs but maintains a beefier chest... perfect!

Around about now I started to emphasise the singular-ness (if that's a word) of how these things were becoming impossible to build... take for example the blend of body I used for this - Bane's arms - dismantling a £500 bane body just for the arms!
A Superman torso and legs - itself around £180.

I wasn't being rude, but who in their right mind would hand over the guts of £600 in figures just to be charged another £300 for the gear... no, me neither! It was only serendipity I had spare parts and these particular bodies still around from failed projects or part-exchanges from customers.

I had some Glow-In-The-Dark powder I could mix-in to give the Alien blood an added GLOW effect.

Jarrod Penfold was able to create some NODES for me around now too - so everything was coming together nicely.

Since the harness contained lights - I got rid of the glowing string and added bulbs and wires to the over-shoulder harness!

Eternal thanks to JARROD PENFOLD...

superb work on designing these! Hope my paint apps and assembly do them justice.

THE KIT CHEN DEBACLE

So any chance I had of mass producing this style of figure I had built from the ground up was gone in an instant when I accused (probably wrongly) the supplier and provider of 1:6th scale items KIT CHEN of a bad-faith / bad-deal...

I sent off my designs for Riddick's RUNE VEST & GRIDDED TROUSERS to be mass produced and hopefully be able to sell these as base sets... Unfortunate timing for me because just around the corner was Boy Black and as all these things surely do come to an end I went out in a blaze of glory firing off emails and spewing bile out and back towards all-and-sundry for bothering to email and tell me my stuff was "over-priced, crap and not worth the bother".

Oops! Put you foot in shite and it really does spread.

Facebook groups closed and YouTube videos taken down - I guess I was 'cancelled' before it was a thing.

For the record - BOY BLACK has inaccuracies but hey, so did my early efforts... I'll be front of the queue when they release a screen accurate figure as I'm sure they will eventually.

Look, since we're here - I'll not even mention those lovely people on SIDESHOW FREAKS for giving me a good 'thrashing' and putting me in my place (some sort of rubbish heap) yep - real nice folks on there, it's a real close knit 'community', gotta love them collectors, lovely people, every one, each and every one of them on that forum too.

BOY BLACK's ARRIVAL...

I suppose there's a lot I could say... probably best to keep it short and sweet. Thanks to all my detractors who contacted me to tell me "at last we can buy something we can afford" - it was around this time I began to realise just how many people in the 1:6th scale community are hate-filled sacks of shite!

All I ever did was make and re-make a figure to sell on (without a loss) either to replace the money for parts I used and the time it took me to sit and make these things.

Thomas Terbanc - many thanks for the hate-filled posts! You taught me a lot, brother!
Paul Murfin... what can I say? Thanks for arguing so vociferously for a vest & trousers set only to complain about the price I charge for sitting and making, you're welcome.

Here's an "Agincourt Salute" just for you:

right back at ya!

Honestly - BOY BLACK was missing a few things... apart from actual black -

1. A Breather

2. A Cloak

3. Some RUNES on his vest

4. Grids on his trousers

5. Some Armour

Speaking of ARMOUR...

I came up this - I call it "DEPOSITION" armour or "DEATH KNIGHT DISGUISE"

I'll let you guess as to why it's DEPOSITION - but the clue is in the fact that Riddick DEPOSES the Lord Marshal in this... also - it'll be a DEPOSITION in court is this gets copied like my Ulaks did!!!

This is a 3D printed set - fully customisable and be made to fit ANY 1:6 scale bodies with a little adjustment here & there - you might say "it's even designed for the FULLER figure".

It's about 2016 here and this is how he's sitting now...

So I made the Bone Sword & daggers for the BARBARIAN,
the SHIVS for the CONVICT,
and the Ulaks for the GLADIATOR...

I then found this on Ebay and decided to do a DARK FURY sort of cartoon looking version... for a bit of fun - I based this on a GANGSTERS KINGDOM body and kept the paint simple - I also custom-made a Pitch Black style shotgun for him too!

2018

3D PRINTED PITCH BLACK/CONVICT SHOTGUN

As a final farewell to the character I decided to throw everything at this figure - I was approached by Matteo (but in reality it's probably for someone else - just don't want to get named or shamed because they were vociferously slagging me off on another website or got involved in an online tomato throwing contest) anyway - here it is - the FINAL 1:6 scale RIDDICK / SPACE GLADIATOR in all his glory.

I think you'll agree... my SPACE GLADIATOR came a long way!

What next...?

NECROMONGERS

As with SPACE GLADIATOR... the DEATH KNIGHT grew as I tackled each individual figure.

  1. SOLDIER
  2. COMMANDER
  3. CHAMPION
  4. ELITE
I found that yes, I could alter the armour to suit whatever figure it was being built on - but I wanted as little tweaking as possible until I was at a stage where everything was finalised and then the upgrades would occur as and when new ideas or people's favourites began to emerge.
